Media Specialist Duties:

  • Manage and maintain the school library/media center

Gifted & Talented Duties:

Qualifications:

Part-Time Librarian

Job Title: Part-Time Librarian

Position Summary

The Part-Time Librarian, in collaboration with the head librarian, is responsible for managing and maintaining the school library as a vibrant center for learning, research, and reading. This role supports students and faculty by providing access to resources, fostering information literacy, and encouraging a culture of inquiry aligned with the school’s Catholic mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily library operations and organization of materials
  • Curate, catalog, and maintain the collection of books and digital resources
  • Assist students in developing research skills, especially in effectively using databases, information literacy skills, and a love of reading
  • Collaborate with faculty to support curriculum needs, integrate library resources into classroom instruction, and deliver research classes
  • Provide guidance on ethical research practices, including proper citation and source evaluation print and online (including databases and AI) resources
  • Assist in maintaining the library web site and online catalog
  • Maintain a welcoming, organized, and inclusive library environment, while managing students in a firm, positive, and inviting manner
  • Respond to the changing academic, instructional, technological, and information needs of the Holy Angels community
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Library Science, or related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Teaching experience at the middle and/or high school level preferred
  • Experience working in a library
  • Knowledge of AI
  • Salary is based on experience and education

Salary: Per diem rate of $160.00. This position does not have access to benefits. 

Somerville Middle School is seeking a motivated and student-centered substitute librarian to support instruction in information literacy, digital literacy, and digital citizenship. This position will work directly with middle school students and collaborate with classroom teachers to support curriculum-based projects that build students' research, technology, and critical thinking skills.

The substitute librarian will be expected to develop and instruct lessons that help students locate, evaluate, and use information responsibly. Topics may include research skills, source evaluation, media literacy, responsible use of technology, online safety, digital citizenship, and ethical use of information.

Additional responsibilities include collaborating with classroom teachers on curriculum projects, supporting students with print and digital resources, updating and maintaining the school's book collection, identifying outdated materials, recommending new bookpurchases, repairing materials as needed, and recommending databases and digital resources that align with student and teacher needs.

Preferred candidates will have experience working with middle school students, teaching information or digital literacy skills, supporting library or media center programming, and collaborating with teachers. Strong organization, flexibility, communication skills, and a commitment to creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment are essential
Benefits: This is a temporary, per diem position which does not have access to benefits.
