Blair Academy's Timken Library is seeking a part-time or full-time Library Assistant.  This position is responsible for assisting the director in a variety of school library operations while providing superb service to the Blair community.   The Library Assistant position is non-exempt and reports to the Director of Timken Library.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist patrons with research related to curriculum and personal interests

  • Coordinate with teachers to support library instruction and classroom collaboration

  • Provide readers' advisory support and suggestions

  • Catalogue, repair, and suggest selections for circulating and reference print collection

  • Provide supervision of high school students in a warm and welcoming atmosphere

  • Assist in managing all aspects of the School archives




  • Knowledge of Google and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Patient and resourceful, polite and dependable

  • Must have excellent customer service skills

  • Strong preference to candidate with or pursuing SLMS degree (or equivalent)

Brief Description:


The Board of Education of Middlesex County Vocational and Technical High School is currently accepting applications for School Library Media Specialist for the 2021-2022 school year.


This will be a ten-month tenured track position. Salary will be based on the salary guide in effect.


This position will be located at our East Brunswick Campus.




  1. Valid New Jersey Educational certificate with School Library Media Specialist endorsement # 2855.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of Library Media Services and Makerspace Education.

Full-time Senior Library Assistant – Circulation/ Youth and Adult Services - The Dunellen Public Library

Perform Circulation/Youth and Adult Services duties under the direct supervision of the Library Director. 

Essential Functions of the Job: Familiarity with the interlibrary loan system, the procurement of library materials, and the technical processing function of the Library. Plans and facilitates programs and related publicity in cooperation with Library Assistants.  Assists in maintaining and promoting library collections; performing other library-related tasks as assigned by a Supervisor or Library Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning, promoting and implementing library programs. Performing direct patron service at the circulation desk. Compiling daily circulation data and monthly statistical reports. The production of monthly calendar of library activities. Assists in the coordination of summer reading programs with local schools. Performing other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Library Director.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience with children is required. A Bachelor’s degree is required, students pursuing or candidates with their MLSIS are preferred. Two years of related patron service, library, customer service experience and computer skills required. Early childhood education experience and library experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities. Consideration will be given to candidates without a degree based on qualifications.

Compensation: This is a full time position $19.19 - $22.00 per hour. This is a full time position, 35 hours per week with medical and dental benefits as provided by the borough of Dunellen.

Library Media Specialist

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Principal, to assist students, and teaching staff with an enriching library/media center environment with a wide range of reading and other educational materials; maintains library collection at school site; develops appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; and instructs students and others on the proper use of the library resources.



  • State Certification as a Librarian or Library/Media Specialist or as required for positions.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Masters Degree preferred.
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
