The

document encompasses the following:
Philosophy (School Library
Media Program, Instruction, Student Achievement)
Relationship to National and
State Standards
School Library Media Program
Goals
Roles of the School Library
Media Specialist
Planning and Assessment of
the School Library Media Program
Program Components (Facilities,
Staffing, Resources, Scheduling, Curriculum (NJ CCCS and AASL
Information Literacy Standards Matrix, Assessment of Student Learning,
Curriculum Template)
New Jersey Core Curriculum
Content Standards and School Library Scope and Sequence
Appendix (Bibliography, AASL
Information Literacy Standards, Materials Selection Policy, Acceptable
Use Policy (AUP), Ten Concepts of the Information Curriculum,
The Big Six Skills: Information Problem Solving Approach, Library
Bill of Rights, AASL Position Statements, EMAnj Sample Frameworks
activities, Web links to related topics, works cited and more.
This
document replaces the CD format mailed to members in 2004 as well
as the 2004 online publication.
The
revised document is available in PDF format only but sections
are available in Word format to members only to facilitate
the members' use of the document to adapt for their own use. The
process to receive these files will be available in the members
section on < www.njasl.org>.
These sections include: NJASL/EMAnj School Library Curriculum
Template, NJASL/EMAnj Core Curriculum Content Standards and School
Library Scope and Sequence, Frameworks: New Jersey Core Curriculum
Content Standards for
Content
of Instruction Integrated with Library Information Skills and
Appendix J.
In
its School Library Media Program , the New Jersey Association
of School Librarians provides goals, objectives, templates, scope
and sequence, and activities that show how library resources and
information literacy skills are infused into all curriculum areas
as advocated by Information Power. The matrix provides
a quick overview of the interrelationship between the standards/components
and performance indicators of the defined sections of the Core
Curriculum Content Standards and the AASL Information Literacy
Standards.
As
in the Content Standards, the School Library Instructional Goals
provide an opportunity for cooperative learning. No one classroom
can possibly contain all the resources needed to teach the students
in that classroom. Even with the many advances in technology,
a thorough education cannot be achieved through the use of a single
tool.
